Among the three Curtis brothers, Soda is the peacekeeper of the frequently fighting Darry and Ponyboy. Soda gets along fine with both Darry and Ponyboy causing him to be the most well equiped to stop his older and younger brother from fighting. However, being the peacekeeper also hurts Soda. Both Ponyboy and Darry try to make Soda join either side just like a tug of war, which tears Sodapop apart. At one point, the fighting causes Soda to burst out out of the house while bawling quite hard. In addition, he works full time at DX to help Darry keep the family in a good condition financially.
